The Nickel Boys Social Impact Campaign – Film, Storytelling & Social Change
In collaboration with Desirae Jones Co., the Nickel Boys Social Impact Campaign showcased the film’s cinematic artistry, compelling storytelling, and profound social impact. Rooted in the real-life history of the Dozier School for Boys, the campaign used film as a tool for historical preservation and activism. Designed to amplify themes of racial injustice, resilience, and storytelling, the campaign engaged HBCU students, activists, and influencers through a mix of digital and in-person activations, fostering meaningful discussions and inspiring action.
Through educational programming, influencer engagement, and an HBCU Screening Tour, the initiative connected Nickel Boys with students, creatives, and thought leaders. Screenings at Lincoln University, Florida A&M, Southern University, Elizabeth City State, and Texas Southern University featured filmmakers, cinematographers, and scholars, sparking dialogue on the power of visual storytelling.
An Interactive Educational Guide provided deeper engagement, offering historical context, cinematic analysis, discussion prompts, and action steps. Designed as a dynamic learning tool, the guide served as a valuable resource for professors looking to integrate the film into their curriculum, providing structured lesson plans and critical discussion frameworks. For students, it established a strong foundation for analyzing the film’s themes, equipping them with historical background and critical thinking prompts that encouraged deeper conversations on racial injustice, resilience, and the legacy of the Dozier School for Boys. By bridging film and education, the guide fostered meaningful dialogue in classrooms and beyond, empowering students to connect the film’s narrative with broader social justice movements..
